the cars

GP Team Challenge has 12 single seat and two twin seat cars previously used
for the Grand Prix Masters series in 2005/06.  The cars were raced in the televised series by F1 drivers such as Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fitipaldi, Ricardo Patrese and Rene Arnoux and raced at Kyalami in South Africa, Losail in Qatar and at Silverstone in England at speeds up to 200 mph.

Between 2005 and 2007 the Grand Prix Masters Series attracted more than 25m TV viewers, 100,000 plus spectators, $25m+ in revenue and held races in South Africa, Qatar and the UK. More importantly it re-ignited the passion of the fans of Formula 1, past and present, and produced thrilling gladiatorial style racing.

For the first time in their careers, Formula 1 greats like; Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fittipaldi and Riccardo Patrese were allowed to race each other in technically identical 300km/hr cars to derive a true measure of driver skill.

On November 13th 2005 fourteen brand new 600 bhp, 300 km/hr, race cars took to the grid at the inaugural GPM race at the historic Kyalami circuit near Johannesburg.

The drivers were:

Emerson Fittipaldi (F1 Two times World Champion)
